Meet the First Grade Teachers

At Arcadia Elementary, our first-grade team is a vibrant blend of experience, passion, and heart. These educators bring learning to life through creativity, hands-on exploration, and a deep commitment to helping every child grow. Together, they create a welcoming, joyful environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn each day.

From morning greetings to end-of-day celebrations, our first-grade teachers infuse every moment with purpose and positivity. They build strong relationships, nurture confidence, and meet students where they are — recognizing that each child learns in their own unique way. Their classrooms are filled with laughter, curiosity, and the kind of meaningful learning that sticks.

Meet the Teachers

Ms. Brianna Rebhahn
Now in her second year at Arcadia Elementary, Ms. Rebhahn brings an impressive academic background and a strong passion for inclusive education. A 2024 UW–La Crosse graduate with high honors, she double-majored in Elementary–Middle Education (K–9) and Special Education (K–12). Her dream is to continue expanding her Special Education expertise by pursuing a master’s degree in the future. Her dedication to meeting diverse student needs shines through in her classroom every day.

Ms. Jaycie Bahr
Also in her second year, Ms. Bahr joined the Arcadia Elementary community with an early and genuine connection—completing her student teaching here in a fourth-grade classroom. A 2024 UW–La Crosse honors graduate in Elementary–Middle Education, she pairs her academic excellence with meaningful hands-on experience. Her work with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse earned her the 2023 Staff of the Year Award, a testament to her impact on young learners. She also contributes to the Raiders Ark after-school program and serves on the PBIS Committee. She hopes to pursue her Master’s in Reading to continue strengthening literacy learning.

Mrs. Vanessa Deniz
Since joining the district in 2011, Mrs. Deniz has become a powerful advocate for bilingual learners and culturally responsive teaching. After beginning her career in third grade, she transitioned into the Valle Dual Language Program in 2022–2023. She holds two master’s degrees from Edgewood College—one in Dual Language Education and the other in ESL. Her leadership extends far beyond her classroom: she serves on the Guided Coalition team and recently presented at the WIDA Conference, highlighting the district’s work with Project Respect. In 2024, she was honored as the WIABES Bilingual Educator of the Year. Mrs. Deniz is dedicated to helping students grow as proud, confident bilingual learners.

Mrs. Abby Schock
Mrs. Schock is now in her seventh year teaching first grade at Arcadia Elementary. A 2018 graduate of Winona State University with a degree in Elementary Education and an Early Childhood emphasis, she has always been committed to fostering strong foundations for young learners. As a college student, she co-taught in a four-year-old classroom and completed her student teaching right here in first grade. Her academic dedication earned her a place on the Dean’s List every semester. She now serves on the school’s math committee and brings steady leadership, warmth, and consistency to her students and team.

Mrs. Linda Bjorge
Mrs. Bjorge began her teaching career at Arcadia Elementary in the 2011–2012 school year after graduating from Winona State University. Her experience spans 4K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Third Grade, including several rewarding years teaching 4K at Holy Family. Today, she proudly teaches first grade—surrounded, as she puts it, “by the best, prettiest, and funniest teachers in the entire school.” She also serves on the Guided Coalition team, where she works collaboratively to strengthen instructional practices. Before becoming an educator, she served seven years in the Marine Corps and seven more as a police officer—adventures that included accidentally crashing a patrol car or two! She jokingly claims her future goal is to become the “Supreme Leader of the School,” but for now, she’s happily shaping future leaders in her classroom.

Collective Experience

With over 28 years of combined teaching experience, the first-grade team is a powerhouse of knowledge, compassion, and dedication. Their collective strengths span bilingual education, special education, literacy, early childhood development, and hands-on instructional strategies. Together, they foster a nurturing and engaging environment rooted in curiosity, confidence, and the joy of learning. Their mission is simple yet profound: to help every child thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally—through strong family partnerships, meaningful relationships, and purposeful teaching.

Department Mission

The first-grade team is committed to nurturing and inspiring every child to reach their fullest potential. They design learning experiences that are fun, interactive, and student-centered—encouraging curiosity, independence, and a love of discovery. They believe deeply in the power of collaboration among families, teachers, and the community, creating a supportive environment where all students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Recent Highlights

Recently, first graders took their learning outdoors during an exciting nature walk and scavenger hunt focused on identifying nouns. Before heading out, students brainstormed examples of people, places, and things they might encounter. Then, with clipboards and curiosity in hand, they explored the neighborhood—searching for nouns in the world around them. This real-world application strengthened vocabulary and grammar skills while also giving students a chance to enjoy nature, move their bodies, and even play together at the park. The activity blended learning and play in the best possible way.

Upcoming Events

After Winter Break, first graders will embark on a highly anticipated field trip to the Children’s Museum of La Crosse. This hands-on experience will spark creativity, encourage problem-solving, and give students the chance to experiment, build, and explore through interactive exhibits. The trip promises not only meaningful learning but also joyful memories students will remember for years to come.
